Fans buy it not for newcomers

Ths DVD is basically an update to the YESYEARS VHS Video of the early 90s. Picture quality is good but the mixing of the voice over and background music is poor. I think because this is a YES documentary the producer has used YES music as background music. Now if you're a fan of the band like me you find your ears drawn to the songs over the voice over. The music could have been more down in the mix. Another annoying thing is the strobing effect used on everything. This is the effect that makes the pictures seem out of sync and is great when used with music. But the use of strobing on someone just sitting in a chair talking is not really any use at all and becomes a distraction in the end.So if your looking for a YES music DVD buy SYMPHONIC, it's great. Other than that we get an update on the band's history which as a long time fan I have heard before BUT I did learn one or two new things so worth it in the end. I have to say that there is great play based on the fact that the present line up of the band is the classic one. Which is unfair to the others that have played a part in the band and UNTRUE. The excepted classic albums of the band are

"THE YES ALBUM" with Bruford on drums not Whites and Kaye on Keys not Wakeman.

"CLOSE TO THE EDGE" still with Bruford but with Wakeman taking over keys.

"TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS" Which is either hated or loved but is the reason Wakeman left the band for the first time.

"RELAYER" With Pat Moraz on keys.

"DRAMA" One of the best YES albums with Trevor Horn on vocals making the only man to have been in the band for 35 years Chris Squire not as mentioned on the DVD.

"GOING FOR THE ONE" Second "classic lineup" album

"90125" With Trevor Rabin on guitar and Tony Kaye back on keys.

So as you can see the only Album that this lineup played on is Tales and Going For Fhe One out of a 35 year history. A bit unfair I think to seemingly dismiss the others as they contributed as much if not MORE than some of those who now claim "CLASSIC" status. The point is that this band has given us some of the very best music ever over its time and with a lineup that is mind numbing even to those in the band it seems.

I rate Yesspeak - Yes 35th Anniversary - 4/5
