Yes To Attend Roger Dean Exhibit In Sydney

By Paul Cashmere

As coincidence would have it, the first Australian tour by Yes in 30 years is coinciding with an exhibition of the artwork of Roger Dean in Sydney.

Dean was the illustrator of many of the great Yes albums like 'Close To The Edge', 'Tales From Topographic Oceans' and 'Fragile'. "Roger had his exhibition booked before we had our dates booked" Yes keyboard player Rick Wakeman tells Undercover News. "Originally we thought we were going to be here earlier but Jon had his accident. It is such a coincidence we are here when he is here, in fact on a day off in Sydney".

"Things happen that way" adds singer Jon Anderson. "The whole idea of 30 years later coming back to play in Australia and Rick being back in the band is like coming full cycle. We've started talking to Roger about doing a project together, him doing a stage design for us and it all works hand in hand".

They plan on visiting the exhibition in Sydney on Sunday. "In fact I said to him if there is a piano in there I will play" Rick laughed. "Give me a tune, have a little sing sing-song".

Yes fans who see the Australian shows will also be able to buy live albums from the concerts. Yes have what they call The Soundboard Recordings, official bootlegs that are sold through their website (yesworld.com). The Australian shows will be included. "That's the plan" says Jon. "We have just done Japan. We have three shows great there any probably two of the shows from here will be available. It is called The Official Bootlegs. We will make sure people who come and see the show can get a copy of the show".

The Roger Dean exhibition is on now until October 12 at the Gig Gallery, 70 Glebe Point Rd, Glebe. (phone : 02 9552 1552 for details).

Roger will attend the exhibition September 21, 1 pm to 9 pm, September 22, 3 pm to 9 pm, September 23, 6 pm to 9 pm (look out for Rick on Sunday).

Yes perform tonight (Friday September 19) at Vodafone Arena in Melbourne and tomorrow night (September 20) at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
